Boys Soccer Mid-Season Review – by Griffin Auciello

The Memorial Boys Soccer team is currently sitting in the middle of the pack in the Division 1 standings with a record of 3-4. Losses were handed to the squad at Salem and at home against Bedford, Manchester Central, and Dover. Three teams which have winning records except for Dover who currently share the same record with Memorial at three wins and four losses, putting both teams just under .500. Bedford proved to be a tough opponent for Memorial shutting them out 4-0 on September 8 and now Bedford is atop the Division 1 standings with a record of 6-0-1 thanks to a tie with Pinkerton just days after Bedford faced off against Memorial. Queen City rivals Central are currently occupying the seventh spot in the standings with a record of 5-2, suffering their only two losses to Bedford by a score of 5-0 and Timberlane by a score of 2-1. Even better news than Timberlane beating Central is that our very own Crusaders handed Timberlane their only loss of the season at home 2-1. Unfortunately, the transitive property does not apply to high school athletics so Memorial will have to beat Central themselves in order to establish dominance over the Little Green. Central does not show up again on Memorial’s regular season schedule, which means hopefully they’ll both meet in the playoffs as long as the Crusaders can keep pushing and try to rise to the top of the standings.

On a more positive note, Memorial’s other two wins both came at home against Nashua South by a score of 2-1 for Memorial’s first game of the season and against Keene with a final score of 4-0, marking the team’s first shutout win of the season.

The Crusaders have nine more games remaining on the regular season schedule, only 3 of which are at home. Hopefully the team can make the most of what’s left of this thrilling regular season and extend the Memorial soccer season into the playoffs. The team’s next game is at Pinkerton on the 29th before they come back home and play host to Winnacunnet in October. Good luck boys!
